A lovely painting on wood of 2 women in a garden with yarn in their hands “unwinding the skein” (a length of yarn loosely coiled and knotted).

Painted 0n a thick wood board.  Signed bottom right AS and a brass plaque on front of frame “Unwinding the Skein, Annie Louisa Swynnerton, ARA, 1845-1933”

Annie Louisa Robinson Swynnerton ARA (1844–1933) was an English painter of allegorical, figure and portrait paintings. She studied at Manchester School of Art, Académie Julian, and in Rome. Swynnerton was influenced by George Frederic Watts and Edward Burne-Jones. John Singer Sargent appreciated her work and helped her to become the first elected woman member at the Royal Academy of Arts in 1922
