Meissen Large Porcelain Figural Centerpiece in the Rococo Style by Leuteritz

A superb Meissen figural porcelain centerpiece designed by Ernst August Leuteritz using forms in the Rococo style. The oval rocaille base has a centered tree-like column, covered on all sides with rocaille elements of sculpted flowers and leafy vines with a wide variety of blossoms all in an “intimate” scale. Set in dynamic motion two figures swirl as if in a “courtship dance”. The top of the column has a cantilevered mounted oval basket with a looped perforated pattern. The basket’s outwardly curved wall has a wavy edge and side handles, all decorated with a variety of flower bouquets.  Hand painting with the finest detailed brushwork in delicate colours and gold decoration.

Ernst August Leuteritz (1818-1893) studied at the academy in Dresden, was a sculptor and from 1849 to 1886 he held the position of head of design at the Meissen porcelain manufactory. He worked on vessel shapes and figures from the 18th century and designed vases, centerpieces and candlesticks in the styles of Rococo and Classicism. This hallmarked splendid example of the pinnacle of Leuteritz porcelain design makes a fine addition to any formal modern or classical setting.
