Antique Hand Carved in High Relief Portraits of a Roman Military Couple in Black Lava Stone, Circa 1900

Simply beautiful.  A high relief hand carving in black lava stone depicting portraits of a Roman military couple with great detail.  Lava stone carvings in this sculptural relief  “art framed format” are rare as most are found in the form of carved lava stone “cameo” jewelry.  Lovely gold painted wood frame with a “wine red” velvet matt. Considering its age the stone is in very good condition having minor bezel marks.
