Fabulous French Silvered Bronze Sculpture of “Cupidon Méditant” Circa 1861 After Louis Alfred Habert (French 1824-1893)
Art, GeneralA fabulous French silvered bronze sculpture after the famous ” Cupidon Meditant” circa 1861 by Alfred Louis Habert. The figure of Cupid, the infant god, ponders his bounty of a lion. He is holding his bow and quiver of arrows while standing on the lion pelt that drapes the top of the tall silvered bronze pedestal and marble base. The pedestal’s silvered bronze is engraved with floral and cross motifs symbolically referencing “nature & religion”. The pedestal rests on a rectangular black and gold “Portoro” marble base. The silvered bronze is in really excellent condition with the exception of two small “fleabite” wearing spots to the silver on the pedestal side and a small chip on the marble base to the side, all of which are not noticeable from the front.
