Masterful miniature sterling silver (.925) miniature rectangular plaque/medallion by famous medallist Franz Stiasny (1881–1941 in Poland). Stiasny produced a large series of mostly bronze portrait medals or small plaques of important writers, musicians and historical personages in rectangular formats. Stiasny was best known for his portraits of famous composers that were cast in Austria, c.1930

An unusual subject for Stiasny, seen here with the word “ERNTE” cast on the front, which means “harvest” is depicted. The viewer sees a profile portrait of a “harvest maiden” in sterling silver with beautiful high relief details of her hair in “flowers & ringlets”. Motifs of a scythe and wheat in the lower right corner references the harvest theme.  Signed by the artist to the front upper left and stamped .925 the bottom of the front edge.
