Silversmith: Henry Matthews – Birmingham Hallmarked 1897 Repoussé Sterling Silver Overlay and Hand-Blown Crystal Decanter with Stopper.

Here is a gorgeous hand-blown crystal decanter with hallmarked repoussé sterling silver overlaid with a scroll and swirl pattern on the bottle and on the lid. The hallmarks show that the piece was made in Birmingham in 1897 by Henry Matthews, silversmith. The decanter has a square base with a polished pontil mark on the underside.

Above the overlay on the body of the bottle is a solid lip. That is where the hallmarks are and also where the stopper fits into the bottle.

The bottle and stopper are 9 inches tall and 3 1/2 inches wide at the base.

Both the bottle and stopper are in excellent condition.
