v** SOLD ARCHIVES **vA colourful and bright wood block print titled “Kuloose Totem, Calgary” – by Canadian Artist Anne Smith Hook (b. Ireland 1900- d. Toronto 1978).
Anne Smith Hook permanently moved to Canada from Caven County, Ireland, in 1922. Largely self-taught, she also studied under Caven Atkins in the 1940’s and at the Ontario College of Art, under Carl Schaefer. She became a full member of the Federation of Canadian Artists, in 1944, and of the Canadian Painter-Etchers, in 1952. Anne Smith also served as vice-president of the Canadian Painter-Etchers from 1967 to 1969. She later assisted in establishing Visual Arts Ontario and the Prints and Drawings Council of Canada (1976).
