18th Century – Furstenberg – Cup & Saucer with Hand Painted Scene
v** SOLD ARCHIVES **vAn 18th century early hand painted cup and saucer from the Furstenberg factory, Germany circa 1775. The factory opened in 1747 by Johann Georg von Langen and is the 2nd oldest porcelain factory in Germany that still operates on it’s original site.
The hand painted scene is of a woman in a landscape with a flowing blue dress. She holds a a stick with long hair attached and a lock twirling down. A saying is written above the scene: “Spinner noch Lange sure die best Mutter” – loosely translated “Spider still long for the best Mother”..
The cup has a gold rim on both the inside and outside and deep saucer also has a wide gold band.
Marks on bottom in underglaze blue plus some impressed incised marks.
Dates later half of the 18th century. Beautiful quality hand painted scene.
Cup measures: 3 3/4 inches long to handle x 2 3/4 inches diameter at rim x 2 3/4 inches high
Saucer measures: 5 3/8 inches diameter
Excellent condition. minimal gold wear to interior of saucer. No chips, cracks or repairs.
