19th Century English Aesthetic Movement Cabinet / Server, circa 1870
v** SOLD ARCHIVES **vA handsome small server with 2 shelves and a three section cabinet on top. The three sectional cabinet consists of 2 display cabinet sides, each with a front, side and glass shelf, and a middle section with an inlaid decorative door that when open, reveals an interior shelf.
The cabinet is made up of a ebonized walnut highlighted with a lighter burled ‘yew’ wood inlay and string satinwood inlay – the contrast of light and dark is typical of the Aesthetic movement of the mid to late 19th century – a rebellion Art movement against the fussiness of the heavy Victorian designs.
