The landscape with a field and several trees with hills in the background. Signed G. Capone on lower right. Capone was born in Majori, Italy in 1845 and died in 1920. He was a member of a group of artists taking advantage of the panoramic locale to create a school of painters integrating landscape and culture into a school of painting loosely known as the Costaioli. He also exhibited in New York.
The frame of the painting is extremely fine and carries a great deal of value towards the price of the painting.
The painting was appraised by Christies Auction House in 1992 that it would bring between $8,000-$12,000.00 US at that time. Original Christies’ letter comes with the painting.
