Antique Dresden Germany Double Marked Porcelain Demitasse Cup and Saucer, Painted by Helena Wolfsohn, c. 1843-1878
v** SOLD ARCHIVES **vA beautiful antique Dresden Germany porcelain demitasse cup and saucer, painted and gilded by Helen Wolfsohn. The cup and saucer are double marked, showing the mark for Porzellanfabrik Hermann Ohme and overpainted with Helena Wolfsohn’s mark “W”.
Porzellanfabrik Hermann Ohme was established in 1882 in Nieder-Sazbrunn in the German region of Silesia. This factory produced two types of porcelain called clear glaze and Old Ivory. The clear glaze products were made for European and American markets. The firm collapsed in 1930, due to the world financial crises.
Helena Wolfsohn owned an artist’s studio that purchased porcelain blanks from porcelain manufacturers around Dresden. She worked from 1843-1878 so this set would have been created during this period.
The cup and saucer have a white background with floral detail on the exterior of the cup and on the saucer. The rim and handle are gilded. The bottom of the cup and saucer have a swirl design with scalloped rims.
The cup is 3 3/4 inches wide from the rim to the handle and measures 1 5/8 inches tall. The saucer is 4 3/4 inches wide.
Both pieces are in very good condition. There are no cracks, chips or crazing and no loss of gold gilt.
