Art deco Fenton & Russell & Co silver plated spirit kettle with a cane handle, on a silver plated raised stand with three oval shaped feet. The company was established in 1900 in Edinburgh, Scotland and is marked with a silver plate stamp on the base of the kettle. The purpose of the spirit kettle was essentially to provide a source of constantly hot water for use in tea making. It was necessary to have a supply of hot water for the host or hostess, to top the teapot up as required.
