George Arthur Kulmala was born in Finland and immigrated to Canada in 1904. He studied at the Ontario College of Art under J.W. Beatty. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Academy and exhibited between 1924-1939. His specialized in Northern Ontario landscapes and his winter scenes were mostly painted in Muskoka and Algonquin Park.
