Celebrated Canadian Montreal Workshop of Carl Poul Petersen, Former Apprentice to the Legendary Georg Jensen, Sterling Silver Brooch, Hand Hammered Repoussé of “Stylized Tulips” , Octagonal Shape, Circa 1950s

,
This hand-wrought sterling silver brooch is the work of master silversmith Carl Poul Petersen (1895–1977). A former apprentice to the legendary Georg Jensen, Petersen became one of Canada’s most celebrated artisans, blending Scandinavian modernism with traditional craftsmanship. This piece features the iconic “Stylized Tulips” pattern, an elegant repoussé floral motif framed by a clean, modernist octagonal border.
The reverse is fully authenticated with the signature “PP” maker’s mark, “Hand Made Sterling” stamp, and the Canadian national mark (a lion’s head inside a “C”). These hallmarks confirm the brooch as an original, hand-hammered creation from Petersen’s Montreal workshop.
As a premier example of 20th-century Canadian silversmithing, this brooch is highly collectible. Its botanical design and masterful high-relief texture represent the “Golden Age” of custom studio silver, making it a significant find for enthusiasts of mid-century design and Jensen-influenced artistry.
