Early 19th Century Ridgeway Set of 3 Hand Painted Porcelain Dessert Tazza Plates

Ridgeway was one of the most important family dynasties manufacturing Staffordshire pottery from the 1790s to the late 20th century. This set of 3 dessert tazzas has one oval shaped centerpiece and two more rectangular shaped side pieces. All 3 plates have scalloped gold gilt rims on a rich cobalt blue background and white pierced handles. Bright and matte gilt acanthus leaves and scrolls on cobalt blue lead to central unique paintings. Each plate is differently painted with gorgeous floral bouquet baskets and fruit designs. All have gilt scalloped “foot bases”.

In the Ridgeway book by Goddard this pattern is shown as most likely being in the 1851 Great Exhibition at The Crystal Palace, Hyde Park London. This exhibition was the most successful, memorable and influential cultural event of the 19th century.  These plates are of such a historical significance and of a lovely high quality of design and painting, making them a superb collector’s prize.
