An EMPIRE French Rosewood and Gilt Bronze MANTLE CLOCK by JAPY FRERES, c. 1860

This is a fine, 8 day, double-wind, pendulum mantle clock, by the well-known French clock manufacturer, Japy Freres.

The clock chimes on the hour and the half hour.  It is in good working order, and the key is present.

The Empire case consists of four, high polish, rosewood, neo-classical pillars  mounted to a rectangular plinth  and crowned with a rectangular lintel.  Gilt bronze fittings with foliate ornament and scrollwork are positioned on the top and bottom columnar supports, around the face and on the pendulum.

The white enamel face has Roman numerals to mark the hours, surrounded by a geometric band  denoting minutes and black, pierced hour and minute hands.

This is an elegant and graceful timepiece, perfect for any room with neo-classical or Empire touches in the decor.

Marked:  On the back of the plate of the clockworks, behind the chime, with an anchor and “Japy Freres”  in a circle, surrounding a spray of plumes in the centre (pictured).

Measures:  Dimensions:  18 1/2″ H x 9 1/2″ W x 5 1/2″ D.
