Exceptional and Rare Swiss 18k Gold and Painted Enamel Snuff Box – “King Soloman & His Architect” – Rémond, Lamy & Cie – dated 1801-1804
General, JewelryAn exceptional early 19th-century Swiss snuff box, crafted in 18k gold and enamel. It has a rectangular shape with angled corners, and the lid features a beautifully detailed painted scene of King Solomon and his architect.
The enamel plaque is set in a frame decorated with leaf designs and enamel strands, with detailed gold statuettes of female warriors on enamelled plinths on either side. The background features black and translucent blue enamel laid over a plume engine-turned pattern. The sides have matching geometric enamel panels, broken up by small and full paterae. The base continues the same black and blue enamel design. It’s marked with the maker’s stamp of Rémond, Lamy & Cie (a well-known Swiss goldsmith firm active in Geneva from 1801 to 1804), along with a French guarantee mark.
