Exemplary Early Victorian Sterling Silver Personal Travel Communion Set London 1838

,

Very fine Victorian sterling silver three-piece travelling communion set consisting of chalice with a guilt interior, paten and crystal wine bottle with silver cap. The sterling silver paten is used for holding the bread during the Eucharist and sometimes as a cover for the chalice. Hand-engraved with a Christogram, IHS and flaming sun surround on both the chalice and paten.

The original conical box with velvet interior is in good condition considering the age and the intended use for travel. Sterling silver stamp marks show the set was made by Charles Reily and George Storer of London in 1838.

A perfect set for personal use or for the clergy whose congregation is widely dispersed.
