Exquisite & Intriguing 18k Gold Snuff Box with Initials “D” & “L” in Diamonds, Circa 19th Century Europe
JewelryAn intriguing 18k gold snuff box, rectangular and elegantly designed, featuring three-tonal areas of gold. The lid surround is a framed “wreath with shells ” finely chased in lemon gold against a gold sable background. The lid’s central rectangular motif is a “chased flowerhead with foliate scrolls” repeating the lemon-gold colouration against a sable textured gold background. Flanking this central motif on each end are two diamond encrusted monogram initials “D” & “L” . The initials have 6 & 5 small diamonds respectively, all set against a rose gold engine turned/guilloche background. The design is complemented by a slender rose gold thumbpiece and gold interior. The sides and base are exquisite rose gold guilloche. The intricate craftsmanship, despite being unmarked, speaks to a history that is most likely German or French from the 19th century.
