Exquisite Sterling Silver Table Snuff Box by Nathaniel Mills Birmingham, England 1846

A superb table snuff box by renowned silversmith Nathaniel Mills.  Mills was known for his beautiful quality boxes and card cases.  The firm worked out of Birmingham, England in the mid-19th century.  This hinged box is exquisitely made with beautiful details that include hand engraved scroll work on the sides and bottom of the box and a raised applied embellishments on the lid top and front for ease in opening.  An inscription on the top reads:  Presented to Mr. Jas Boyd by a few members in connection with the cathedral St. U.P. Church – Glasgow, 29th April, 1850.

This larger size of snuff box is considered a ‘Table Snuff Box’

Measures: 3 1/2 inches long  x 2 1/8 inches wide x 3/4 inch high.

Marked: Birmingham Silver Hallmarked. Maker: Nathaniel Mills  .  Date letter mark for 1846.

Excellent condition. No dents or repairs.
