French Napoleon III Period – Child Faun/Satyr – Candelabras in Stunning Detail of Bronze and Marble, Circa 1850

This magnificent pair of antique Napoleon III bronze with Faun/Satyr children –  candelabras are a smaller scale, each having a two-armed candelabra with a circular base in an unusual “dusty rose” coloured marble, circa 1850. The workmanship throughout is exceptionally detailed and the marble base with raised bronze feet and intricate inset bronze foliage and beaded bronze trim are exquisite.  The children are child Satyrs (or Faun) with human upper body and legs & feet of a goat (Greek Mythology).

Napoleon III style, is also known as the “Second Empire” style, is “highly eclectic” and innovative.  Originating and flourishing during the reign of Napoleon III ( 1852-1870),  new art movements rose to prominence. For example architecture (Haussman’s renovation of Paris), furniture (Empress Eugenie’s love of the Louis XVI revival style),  painting and sculpture (The Paris Salon and the 1st introduction to the French public of rejected work of the avant-guard like Manet) and the decorative arts, all were commissioned for public buildings that influenced the rest of Europe and North America.

This wonderful antique French Napoleon III Period pair of candelabras are a “piece of history”,  a perfect finishing touch to any desk, mantle or hall console.
