Georgian Silver Gilt Table Snuff Box by Thomas Shaw – English Hallmarked, Birmingham 1826

A gorgeous silver gilt table snuff box with English hallmarks for Thomas Shaw, Birmingham 1826. The box has a beautifully detailed pattern on the top of the lid and a swirl pattern around the rim and on the exterior of the bottom section of the box.  Beautiful quality overall.

The cartouche in the centre of the hinged lid is monogrammed “JB”.

On the underside of the lid and on the bottom of the inside of the box are the hallmarks.  On the inside of the lid is an inscription, written in Norwegian, which roughly translates to “To Mr. rhythm master, Jacob Borch, in recognition from the Kjarulff heirs”.

The box measures 3 3/8 inches long x 2 1/4 inches wide and stands 1 inch tall.
