German Porcelain Art Nouveau “Odalisque” Vignette Portrait Vase, Hand-Signed Schum, Circa 1895-1910

A magnificent turn-of-the-century antique German porcelain Art Nouveau twin-handled cabinet vase, heavily inspired by the classic Sèvres style. Crafted circa 1895–1910 in Germany, this exquisite baluster-form urn in a fine white porcelain body is adorned with an opulent array of hand-applied, raised-bead gilding alongside elaborate, asymmetric gold scrollwork, scrolling foliate patterns, and fine diaper-pattern detailing across the shoulders.  The underside of the unglazed foot rim is hand-incised with factory shape code 9942 and mold number 72.
The undisputed focal point of this exceptional cabinet piece is a central oval reserve framed by a heavy, encrusted gold-beaded border containing a masterfully hand-painted miniature “Odalesque” style portrait vignette. The portrait depicts a romanticized, classic Art Nouveau profile of a young woman with long, flowing auburn hair and an elegant gaze set against a rich, dark backdrop. This fine miniature artwork is hand-signed along the lower inner border by the artist Schum. This slender and elegant signed German porcelain vase is in excellent antique condition, serving as an excellent example of turn-of-the-century continental decorative art.
