Handsome King William IV Pair of English Regency Side Chairs in Mahogany, Circa 1830s

A handsome pair of English Regency period “King William IV” mahogany side chairs. This solid pair of side chairs are in very good condition and feature Neoclassical and geometric elements like turned, carved front legs and “saber” or “slightly curved” rear legs terminating in square feet. The curved backrest has a middle, support brace for optimum comfort.

Regency furniture is highly collectible and was frequently made with dark, heavy woods such as mahogany.  Cabinetmakers have preferred mahogany for centuries for its sense of luxury and sumptuously appealing dark grain. The classical revival of the Regency style emphasized the purity of detail and structure giving a stately presence to the design which focuses on symmetry and streamlined graceful arcs.
