Furniture, GeneralAn impressive scale, tall and luxurious, highly decorated pair of French late 19th century Louis XV kingwood, bronze ormolu and Brèche Violette marble pedestal columns. The pedestal is raised by beautiful lightly curved legs with impressive finely detailed bronze ormolu fitted foliate acanthus leaf and lions feet “sabots or French hooves/shoes”.
A luxuriant ormolu relief medallion of a “Bacchus mask ” centered on each side and set on the exceptional veneered kingwood background. Each corner of the slender most decoratively shaped body has an ormolu sculptural relief of a “Greek warrior” . Above is the original Brèche Violette marble top elevated on its own ormolu trimmed kingwood base. Note one corner of the marble is chipped but due to the square shape and repetitive ormolu applications, it could be turned to the back of any furniture grouping.
A most elegant and important pair of historical French Louis XV period pedestal columns.
