Italian .800 Silver Model of a Phoenician Bireme Warship on Lapis Lazuli Stone Base – Mid 20th Century.

A very detailed silver ship model of a Phoenician Bireme with silver body, and gilt silver oars and accents.
The ship sits on a natural lapis lazuli stone base.

A bireme is an ancient oared warship with two superimposed rows of oars on each side.  Long vessels built for military purposes and they could achieve a relatively high speed.  Invented before the 6th century BC and used by the Phoenicians, Assyrians & Greeks (Wikipedia)

Italian silver .800 marks on the bow of the ship.  Made in Milan – mid 20th Century.

Measures: 16 inches long.
