Lovely Pair of Sevres Style Gilt Bronze Mounted Cobalt Blue Porcelain Vases, Hand Painted & Signed

These gorgeous vases are decorated with finely tooled gilt reserves on a deep cobalt blue ground; the wrap around painted scenes with courting couples inspired by the fete galante to the front and landscape scenes to the reverse. The necks and bases with fine gilt tooling of floral foliage are flanked by bronze handles and raised on conforming bases. Both vases are marked on the base Sevres France and each scene is signed on the respective vase by hand: Gilbert on one and Collot on the other. They are late 19th century but the Sevres Porcelain Factory opened in the Royal Château of Vincennes, in late 1739 – early 1740.  Years later in 1756 the factory moved to the village of Sèvres located outside of Paris and in route to Louis XV’s Palace of Versailles where it became the preeminent porcelain manufacturer in Europe. When the company ran into financial difficulties, the King who had become an avid client bought out the shareholders and became the sole owner. The factory remained in the royal family until it was nationalized following the French Revolution.The range of objects produced was enormous, as were the types of decoration that they employed.  The factory is still in production today.
