Luxurious & Rare Early French Sèvres Jewelled Porcelain Cabinet Cup & Saucer, Hand Painted Portrait of King Louis XIV, Dated 1754

Spectacular and rare early French Sèvres King Louis XIV jewelled porcelain cup and saucer, dated 1754. The finely made cup with molded loop handle, is hand painted in “jewelled” coloured enamels of indigo, white pearl, and sapphire red, all set within a decorative gilded border with further scrolling floral designs on a rich cobalt blue ground.

The cup has a hand painted portrait of King Louis XIV with the Sèvres intertwined “L”s  mark to the base and the letter “A” dating to 1754 which was the beginning of “Sèvres Manufactory “. Outside the Sevres mark, you will see the craftsmen initials or the symbol of marks: “Conde J.” and “E” for Charles Eloi Asselin. During a productive career as a painter at the Sèvres Porcelain Manufactory, Charles-Eloi Asselin became one of the factory’s principal figure painters. The saucer is similarly trimmed with hand painted jewelled enamel decoration and gold cresting against a cobalt blue ground. The center vignette of the saucer has hand painted musical & floral motifs.

The cup and saucer are in excellent original condition, considering the age of 270 years!
