Magnificent pair of 19th Century Satsuma “Haas Collection” vases depicting hand painted Japanese “figural garden” scenes signed to the base Kinkozan 金光山 and dates to the Meiji Period (1868-1912) circa 1890. The Satsuma Haas Collection refers to a specific collection Japanese Satsuma pottery attributed to the collector Haas, possibly an antique dealer, collector, or art enthusiast. The Haas Collection is known for its fine quality, elaborate decorations, and Meiji period pieces. The Meiji period in Japanese history (1868-1912) saw the introduction of Western decorative styles into Satsuma ware, making it highly sought after by collectors. Both vases are in excellent condition.

“Satsuma ware” traditionally from the Satsuma Province, is known for its distinctive ivory-coloured ground and elaborate, gold-decorated designs.  Each vase has a very tall “skyscraper shape” that flares to the  top and features gilt trim with horizontal banding and continuous elaborate patterns that blend downward perfectly into the overall landscape painting. Sublime quality and detail of the pastel tonal hand-painting referencing “romantic landscape” and traditional “figural garden” scenes, all having unbelievable “relief textural gilt highlights”.

Collectors can seamlessly incorporate these historically famous Haas Collection Japanese Satsuma vases into many interiors, offering a luxurious but subtle addition to corporate or residential settings.
