Mettlach Stoneware German Stein with Dog Figural Handle, Dated 1877

A wonderful Mettlach Germany stoneware stein, dated 1877.  The stein has a white porcelain lid, rimmed in pewter, and decorated with banners and a shield with the words “Postnubila Phoebus 1877 v Rebay”.  A dog sits on the top of the handle.

The sand-coloured body of the stein is decorated with a King holding a tankard and sitting on a keg. On either side of this are leaves, berries and wheat stalks.

The stein measures 7 1/8 inches high X 5 inches wide, including the handle, and is in excellent condition.
