Miroy Frères Paris Gilt Bronze & Marble Mantle Clock – circa 1850
GeneralA gilt bronze clock on white marble base. The round white enamelled clock face surrounded by gilt bronze and then white marble with a gilt bronze figure of a putti wrapped in neoclassical dress on one side of the clock and a head on plinth on the other side. The putti has a book in hand with pen and there are books on the floor beside. The marble base is serpentine in shape and has a repair to one pointed corner. Pendulum and key included.
The clock works are marked: a Miroy Freres B’tés, Paris C.M. 1263
French, circa 1850.
There is some gilt wear to the bronze figure.
Measures: 19 inches long x 15 1/2 inches high.
Miroy Freres was a family business based in Paris known for their expertise in manufacturing bronze and spelter statue. They have notably participated in L’Exposition Universelle de Paris in 1867. The family also expanded internationally with the creation of Miroy & Co at New Earl Street (1856-71) and Miroy-Requier at Queen Victoria Street in 1875 both focusing on bronzerie and clockmaking.
