Pair of Early French Empire Gilt Bronze & Wood Candlesticks – Attributed to Claude Galle.

An early pair of French Empire candlesticks with round base, 3 head & feet decoration with wooden shaft.  Attributed to Claude Galle.

Claude Galle (1759-1815) was one of the most significant Parisian bronziers and fondeur-ciseleurs of the late 18th Century and Empire period. First patronised by the Garde-meuble de la Couronne, Galle is known to have collaborated with Pierre-Philippe Thomire. In addition, Galle was responsible for much of the furniture bronzes supplied to the Château de Fontainebleau during the Empire period.
