Pair of H. & C. English Ironstone Platters – “Chinese Pattern” / “The Tea House”, circa 1840s.v** SOLD ARCHIVES **v
Here is a lovely pair of English Ironstone platters by H & C. in the “Chinese Pattern”, circa 1840s. The pattern is also commonly referred to as “The Tea House”.
The platters have a white background and are vibrantly coloured in red with blue and yellow and black around the outside. There is a a lovely pattern around the rim of each platter.
In the centre are two Asian maidens in a garden. One is holding a planter and the other is holding a lute. They are both looking to the left. In the tea house on the right is another figure.
On the back of the platter is a crown and a circle with “Chinese Pattern H. & C.” stamped inside. There is a wreath on each side of the circle.
The smaller platter is 16 inches long x 12 3/4 inches wide. The larger platter is 18 inches long x 14 1/4 inches wide.
Please note that there is some age wear, especially on the red section of the larger platter, as well as couple of nicks on the back of the rim of the larger piece but, overall, the pieces are in good condition.
