Pair of Successionist Period Cast Bronze Religious Plaques of Jesus Christ (“Ecce Homo”) and the Virgin Mary (“Mater Dolorosa”) in Ebonized Wood Frames

A wonderful pair of cast bronze religious plaques in ebonized wood frames.  The design in a Secessionist style from the early 1900’s.  Most likely from Hungary or Austria.

One plaque shows the profile of the Virgin Mary and is entitled “Mater Dolorosa” (Our Lady of Sorrows or Sorrowful Mother). The other plaque shows the profile of Jesus Christ and is entitled “Ecce Homo” (Behold the Man. Belived to be the words uttered by Pontius Pilate when he presented the scourges Jesus to the crowds).

The plaques each have a metal ring holder on the back of the frame for hanging them on a wall.

Each plaque with frame is 10 inches wide x 14 1/2 inches tall.

There are some surface scratches on the wood frames but, overall, the pieces are in good condition.
