Portrait of “Empress Elisabeth of Austria” – Royal Vienna Style Portrait Plate – Franz Xaver Thallmaier Factory c.1890

A beautifully painted portrait of Elisabeth, the Empress of Austria and Queen of Hungary.

“Sisi” as she was known – Married at 16 and had a tumultuous life afterwards – ending in her assassination at age 61.  This is a young portrait of Elisabeth.

A gilt rim with gold decoration over a cobalt blue border.  Then a burnished gold interior rim around the portrait.

The plate is marked on back:  “Elisabeth, Kouiserinoon Oesterreich”
Maker: Franz Xaver Thallmaier München
Impressed CM Hutschenreuther mark. (porcelain manufactured blank).

Franz Xaver Thallmaier’s studio (circa 1890-1910) was one of the more successful and prominent studios painting Vienna style portrait plates at the time.
