Post Impressionist – Paulémile Pissarro (1884-1972) Pastel – Seascape, circa 1930

A rare pastel painting by post Impressionist Artist Paulémile Pissarro (1884-1972), son of the famous French impressionist artist, Camille Pissarro.  It depicts a seascape with several boats on the water in a colourful background.

Paulémile was heavily influenced and taught by Claude Monet (who was also his godfather).

Pastel Measures:  8 3/4 inches x 11 1/4 inches
with Frame measures:  18 inches high x 20 inches wide.

A sketch is also included on the reverse of the painting in glass – that originally came with the pastel.
The pastel was originally purchased in 1991 from a Toronto Auction (Gallery 68) – (original bill of sale included).

Paulémile Pissarro, Camille’s youngest son, was born in Eragny in 1884.  He was brought up in the artistic environment of the family home there and, encouraged by his father, began drawing at an early age.  Paulémile’s godfather was Claude Monet who became his teacher and close friend, particularly after Camille’s death in 1903.

The pastel is in excellent condition.
