Rare Group of Seven Painting – A.Y. Jackson — “St. Tite des Caps” Oil on Board
ArtA charming winter landscape by A.Y. Jackson, one of Canada’s most celebrated painters and a founding member of the Group of Seven. Titled “St. Tite des Caps”, the work depicts the snow-covered rolling countryside of Saint-Tite-des-Caps, Quebec, a region Jackson returned to often for its rugged rural character and dramatic winter scenery.
Painted with Jackson’s distinctive expressive brushwork, the composition captures winding fields, distant hills, scattered evergreens, and soft bands of winter light. The palette combines cool blues and whites with warm ochres, mauves, browns, and pink tones, giving the scene both atmosphere and movement. Despite its small scale, the painting has a strong sense of depth and rhythm, characteristic of Jackson’s mature landscape work.
The painting is signed A.Y. Jackson lower right and retains a G. Blair Laing Limited, Toronto gallery label verso identifying the title and artist. A further label from J.B. Bramall, Picture Liner, Cleaner & Restorer, Oakville, Ontario is also present on the reverse.
Presented in a gilt frame with linen mat.
