Rare & Large Scottish Sterling Silver Ladle by Silversmith Andrew Henderson, Edinburgh 1809

A handsome large ladle in Scottish sterling silver showing all the hallmarks for Edinburgh ” Castle & Thistle” icons, date mark translates 1809, the maker mark AH is Andrew Henderson. The engraved “lion” on the front of the handle is common in crest heraldry. It traditionally symbolizes courage , nobility, royalty, strength, stateliness and valour because historically the lion has been regarded as the “king of beasts”.

A nice, rare Scottish sterling soup ladle with a lovely large bowl and in excellent condition.
