Small Carved, Japanese Signed Ivory Netsuke of a Man Sitting with His Legs Crossed and Holding a Hammer in his Right Hand c.1900

Here is an adorable small, carved and signed Japanese ivory netsuke of a man sitting with his legs crossed and holding a hammer upright in his right hand. There is lovely detail on his robes and hat and hammer.  Dates circa 1900.

A netsuke is a small sculptural object (carved button-like ornament) worn for hundreds of years in Japan as a functional and aesthetic piece and used to suspend articles from the sash of a kimono.

The netsuke is signed on the underside with an Asian character and the letters “AP”.

The netsuke is 1 1/4 inches tall x 1 1/2 inches wide and is in excellent condition.
