Stately French Napoleon III Period Pair of Champagne Bronze Tazzas “En Pied” by Famous Foundry F. Barbedienne, 19th Century
GeneralStately French pair of Barbedienne champagne bronze tazzas “on pied”, from the Napoleon III period. Colourful and rich shades of cloisonné enamel in ochre, sienna, cobalt, forest green and black highlights from the floral arabesques designs on both the circular cups and base terraces. Courtly “sitting griffins” in champagne bronze form the shafts on round the quadripod terrace bases.
Signed on the base by Ferdinand Barbedienne (France, 1810-1892). Barbedienne was a highly important bronze foundry and Ferdinand was one of the most historically important French artists at the end of the 19th century. The expertise in the level of detail and metal working craftsmanship testifies to the greatness of these tazzas “en pied” bronze pieces by Barbedienne.
