v** SOLD ARCHIVES **vAn expressive landscape in a post-impressionist style by 20th century French painter, Gustave Vidal, featuring a group of old stone houses perched upon a hill with a solitary figure of a man out for a walk. Titled “Vielles Maisons en Provence” (translates to “Old Houses in Provence”) on back with Gustave Vidal stamp on canvas. Vidal (1895-1966) was born in Avignon and is a well-known contemporary landscape painter who painted Provence. The depth of perspective is enhance by the use of brighter colours in the foreground and muted colours in the shadows and in the distant horizon. Heavily applied palette knife strokes as well as brush work adds additional dimension to the paintings canvas.
