Beautiful English Silver Plated and Crystal Epergne, Johnson, Durban & Co Ltd – Birmingham Circa 1898
Art Glass / Crystal, Silver HollowareA rare late Victorian “epergne” by J.D & Co Ltd, out of Birmingham England circa 1898 . An epergne is an ornamental centerpiece for either a dining or coffee table, typically used for holding sweets and flowers. This epergne has a cut crystal bowl in the center with six arms coming out to hold six crystal flutes. The flutes are removable and “vase like” for holding flowers. Owing to the age 2 flutes have small imperfections which are not visibly noticeable & do not affect the function. The tiered effect of the upper crystal bowl and lower similar cut crystal flutes rise up from a triangular silver plate base. A gorgeous elegant piece from a most famous historical British family dedicated to the finest quality and throughout the 19th century rose to become one of the major manufacturers in their field.
