Handcrafted Dutch Miniature Silver Windmill Sculpture – .833 Silver Hallmarks

Very animated Dutch handcrafted miniature windmill sculpture in .833 silver. Features a Dutch style windmill with moving windmill blades and an adorable brick building mounted atop 4 clawed feet.

Hallmarking and date marking of silver are longstanding traditions in the Netherlands with the standardization system, put into practice in 1814, which remains largely unchanged today. The 3 separate Dutch silver marks are found on different parts of the windmill:  the Lion Rampart mark and “S” mark are on the underside of the windmill “tower deck” denoting .833 purity and made in 1902 respectively, while the “sword” mark is on the underside of the windmill blade, denoting interconnected separate parts of .833 purity.

The intricacy of the silver work and scale of the parts along with the animated action of moving windmill blades are truly delightful.
