Elegant Bavarian Fine China, Royal Bayreuth “Grey Floral” Pattern, Dinner Set for 6 Place Settings, 1945 -Late 1950s
China PatternsRoyal Bayreuth (Königlich Privilegierte Porzellanmanufaktur Tettau GmbH), is one of the oldest Bavarian china firms located in Tettau, Bavaria, Germany. The “Germany US Zone” mark indicates the set was made between 1945 and the late 1950s, when Bavaria was under American occupation following World War II.
The “grey floral” pattern is a variation of the popular floral motifs produced by Royal Bayreuth during this period. A gorgeous and sophisticated subtle dove grey or dove grey/silver tone is used as the border/background colour and accented with a floral bouquet motif, to include roses and other garden flowers. Gold scrollwork and gold trim on the edges of the plates and on the teacup interior and handles, adds a touch of elegance which is a hallmark of Bavarian porcelain from that era.
While the exact name of the “grey floral” pattern is not commonly known (many patterns from this era were not formally named), it falls into the broader category of popular floral designs that are highly sought after by collectors.
