“Verre sur Verre” Cameo Glass and Enameled Vase, Signed Webb and Corbett
v** SOLD ARCHIVES **vThis is a “verre sur verre” enameled cameo glass baluster vase by the renowned English artisanal glass manufacturing firm of Webb and Corbett.#0; The vase is decorated in the Art Nouveau manner, with vivid and sinuous irises and foliage in purple, green, and blue, outlined in black and foregrounded on an etched background. The rim and foot are banded with an irregular hand-applied enamel graphic in shades of lime and raspberry, with a black linear edge.
Webb was founded in Stourbridge England in 1897 by George Corbett, Thomas Webb III, and Herbert Webb, both grandsons of Thomas Webb. Although better known for their cut crystal table ware, they did produce enamelled objects in the early 20th century David Smith was primarily responsible for these artisanal creations.
