Exquisite Davenport Longport Staffordshire Imari pattern Butter Dish Circa 1870-1886
China Patterns, PorcelainsExquisite “Imari” pattern with deep cobalt blue, red and gold details. This “stamped” Davenport butter dish is designed with innovation. The dish and lower plate are attached, allowing for “ease of serving” and the interior raised porcelain rack with holes keeps the butter “fresh”. Davenport pottery at Longport in Staffordshire was one of the first companies to produce porcelain and were known for their high quality intricate designs , technical skill and innovation. During the 19th century Davenport porcelains were world renowned until they closed in 1887. The dish, circa 1870-1886, has 2 very tiny hairline cracks on the bottom of the plate which aren’t noticeable. Overall visibly in excellent condition, a “gem” for any dinner party table.
