A Pair of Large Staffordshire Pottery “Cows and Figures” Milk Jugs, 19th Century

A lovely pair of 19th century Staffordshire English pottery milk jugs with figures and cows. The milk is poured into opening of the basket on the figure’s head and then, when poured, exits by the cow’s mouth. One jug has a woman figure and the other shows a man.

The woman jug measures 11 1/4 inches long x 2 1/2 inches wide and stands 9 1/4 inches tall.
The man jug is 11 inches long x 2 3/4 inches wide and is 9 inches tall.

Note: there is age crazing on the woman jug and a crack at her wrist. There is also a chip on the underside of the bottom rim of the piece and on her nose. On the man jug, there is some paint loss on the cow and on the man’s head.

Despite these issues, the pair is in good condition.
