Bruno Zach (Vienna, 1891-1945), Austrian Bronze of Young Woman with Cigarette in Hand – on Marble Stand, c. 1930’s
GeneralA beautiful model of a woman from the Art Deco period. The woman stands with a hand on one hip and the other holding a cigarette – she is in Art Deco dress and stands on a green mottled marble base with black slate. The bronze is by Bruno Zach – Austrian artist (1891-1945) who was controversial in his art throughout the Art Nouveau and Art Deco period frequently depicting women as dominatrixes, and in provocative poses along with traditional genre.
Bruno Zach used the same model in many of his sculptures. This figure is the same female model used in many of his works.
This bronze is stamped “Austria” underneath shoe.
A couple of other examples of this particular bronze sculpture are displayed in the final 2 photos.
