Amazing American Pairpoint Puffy Table Lamp with Reverse Painted Hummingbirds and Roses

Pairpoint puffy hummingbird with roses table lamp is really unusual with the frosted sculptural “puffy” glass shade and reverse hand painting. The unique shade design with a wide floral band  of hummingbirds and roses are on a colourless linenfold field with yellow borders and “art nouveau” style metal base. Mounted on a signed “Pairpoint” base with “3066”.

The Pairpoint Mfg. Co. was founded around 1880. By the late 19th century and in the early part of the 20th century, when electric lighting first became popular, Pair Point began producing some of the most beautiful electric lamps available on the market at the time. They consisted of blank glass domes which artists would then paint scenes on the interior of the glass and the imagery was stunning and exquisite when the lamp was illuminated. A certain line of their lamps known as Puffy Pair Points such as this example, not only featured exquisite reverse paintings but also blown-out design which was in keeping with the image of the lamp. The lovely flowers are mold-blown to be raised up so that now in addition to the exquisite coloration on the reverse, you have the full relief effect. Circa 1st quarter 20th century.  Pair point lamps are very desirable and a collector’s dream.
