American Silver-Plated, Double Sided, Engraved Biscuit Server with 4 “Shell Shape” Feet, Movable Carved Handle – Patent date 1879

An unusual American silver-plated, double-sided biscuit server with a carved ivory handle and 4 “shell shape” feet. The handle has pierced silver-plated decorations on either side of the ivory. The handle is movable and, depending on which way it is moved, will open one or the other side panel. The panel and body of the server are engraved and there is a pierced divider inside the server.

On the inside is stamped “Patent 1879”.    “#3837” and “79 16”.

The piece measures 10 inches wide and 8 inches tall and is in very good condition with some wear to the outside.
